What Most Companies Don't Know

Social media has arrived, but companies still aren't sure what to do with it. 58% of companies are currently engaged in social networks like Facebook, microblogs like Twitter, and sharing multimedia on platforms such as YouTube - but research from the Harvard Business Review Analytics Services reports "The New Conversation: Taking Social Media from Talk to Action" finds that much of the investment in social is future-oriented.

Why do you think businesses are investing in social in the future, rather then the present?

  1. I think that companies are stuck in their old ways of R&D before production. In the case of social media, this idea is absurd. Let it become "social" and feedback tell you how to improve. Your product should be highly researched and developed but your social media definitely should not go through those processes.

  2. I think the reason that businesses are hesitant to use social media in the present is because it is another relatively new form of communication. I believe over time they will see more companies having success by incorporating social media into their strategy. There are many ways in which it can be used to benefit a company. At the current time, I think the percent of businesses using social media will increase at a consistent rate over the near future.

  3. I agree with Riley. I feel that a lot fo businesses are stuck in their old ways and have their set things that they are comfortable with. I was actually surprised that only 58% of companies use social media. I thought it would be a lot higher than that. I can definitely see that percentage growing rapidly over the next five years.

  4. I suppose they could be "studying" it, they are testing and studying the programs to see if it is really necessary or not.
